Business Controller
Own the books. Tighten the controls. Help us reshape finance for what's next.
Good accounting is what makes everything else in finance possible. It's about holding the operational backbone steady while the function around it is being rebuilt, new systems, smarter controls, more automation, and AI quietly changing what finance work even looks like.
At Simployer, we're simplifying work-life for employers through modern HR tech. We're growing, our AI-driven direction is reshaping how every team works, including ours, and we're investing in a Finance function that can keep up with it. This role sits inside Group Accounting, close to where the books are kept and where the next version of finance is being built.
Now we're looking for someone who gets excited by questions like:
What would it take to close the month faster without losing rigour?
How do we use AI to remove the work that doesn't need a human?
How do we keep operational excellence and continuous improvement living in the same role?
As our Business Controller, you'll hold the operational backbone of our accounting steady, and help us reshape how the work gets done.
Your mission
Keep the books trustworthy. AP, bank, customer cases, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll-related processes and controls, they run cleanly, on time, and stand up to scrutiny from audit and authorities.
That's the foundation. From there, you'll help us build something better around it: stronger internal controls, smoother reporting, automation, AI in finance processes, and the financial side of ERP enhancements and M&A.
This role starts in accounting today, and grows into controlling, analytics, and improvement work down the line, as you, the function, and the company evolve together.
You will thrive here if…
You come from an accounting, audit, or financial controlling background, and you know what good looks like
You're comfortable owning operational accounting and running balance sheet reconciliations end-to-end
You've worked with ERP systems and have a feel for internal controls frameworks in practice, not just on paper
You're curious about how AI is changing finance work, and you want to help figure that out
You communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally
You're equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team
What you bring
We are not big on long checklists, and if the mission resonates with you we would love to hear from you. That said, there are a couple of things you will need to succeed in this role: fluency in Norwegian and English, and a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field.
You don't need to have done all of this before. But you do need to feel energized by the mix, operational discipline and build-something-better curiosity sitting in the same role.
A message from the hiring manager
Hi, I'm Elena Svennes, Head of Group Accounting at Simployer.
Finance is in an interesting place right now. The day-to-day operational work matters more than ever, it's the foundation everything else relies on, but we're also rethinking how the function runs. New systems, more automation, AI changing what's possible, M&A activity that pulls us into new shapes.
I'm looking for someone who's grounded in the operational side and genuinely curious about the rest. Someone I can trust with the books, and who'll also help me build something better around them.
If that sounds like the kind of role you're looking for, I'd love to hear from you.

The Meet & Greet is a first conversation where we get to know each other better.
You’ll meet the hiring manager and someone from our People & Culture team. We’ll share more about the role, the team, and Simployer as a company, and we’ll ask some competence-based questions related to your experience.
There’s no need to prepare anything specific in advance. It can still be helpful to have a few real examples from your previous experience in mind, as we’re interested in how you’ve approached different situations and responsibilities.
Just as importantly, this is your opportunity to ask us questions, about the role, the team, our way of working, or Simployer in general. We want the conversation to feel open, relaxed, and mutual -
This is a relaxed first chat with one of our recruiters - no stress, no trick questions.
It’s meant to be a two-way conversation where you get to know us and the role a bit better, and we’ll ask a few questions to understand your background and what you’re looking for. No preparation needed. We’ll also touch on practical stuff like salary expectations and your notice period, so it’s a good idea to think about that beforehand. And yes, there’s time for your questions too!
Overall, we’ll keep it high level and fairly short. -
Definitely! If you tick some of the boxes and feel excited about the role, go for it 😊
We don’t expect anyone to match every requirement perfectly, we also value potential, curiosity, and learning mindset. And if you want to share what motivates you, a short personal letter is a great way to tell us why you think this role is made for you.
-
We always make sure you hear from us, whether you move forward in the process or not. If you’ve been through interviews or assessments, we aim to give meaningful feedback whenever possible. Please feel free to let us know what kind of feedback you are looking for, and we'll try our best to adapt to that. However, at the application stage we unfortunately aren’t able to provide detailed feedback to everyone.
